Some funny things about fishermen

There are a lot of kinks in a fisherman’s personality…all of us have kinks in our personality, but the fisherman, is a very different animal altogether.
One of the things I find funny is the use of the word “We”.
Take for example, a group of five anglers set off, only one of them can cast over 100 meters. If they have been fishing long enough together, every person in the group would think they cast as far. So even the person with a 50 meter cast would say “we cast over 100 meters” then look at the others for validation. Now, the others won’t disagree with him, knowing that if they did, they would expose their flaw…so all of them would say, “We can cast over 100 meters”.
Another thing is that if this group in question, has a very experienced angler with them, it then follows that ALL of them are equally experienced, yup! you got that right, even tail end Charlie would have more angling acumen than the other guy that’s standing beside them that is not part of the group. Besides, we have 100 meter casts remember?
Of course, if the better angler in the group has a brain and uses it, for the sake of the group, he would share what he knows. This is a big mistake…remember, all of them have the same experience and skill levels and all make 100 meter casts…so there is no better angler.
Everyone in the group would buy the same or similar tackle because they are thinking that that is the “other” angler’s edge. Only to find out that it indeed needs “a bit of practice”. BUT they don’t want to be taught by the better angler because, it’s no use…they have the same experience and skill levels remember?
The better angler of course would outcast everyone, out fish everyone, still wants to share, but can’t. Will be told off and in the end, better angler would be frustrated.
This teaches us one very important thing; How much you spent for your shiny rod and reel doesn’t make a difference. Even if you buy exactly the same gear as “better angler”, there’s still no real substitute for skill. It would be fair to say though, that on a better angler’s hand, high tech rods and reels would open the heavens up for the angels to sing…
Here’s the problem and the truth…better anglers seldom have the resources to spend on tackle, that’s what made them better in the first place, those that can afford think they would be better anglers…because they think its the equipment.
Better anglers always buy tackle according to their style of fishing…most anglers buy tackle to impress better anglers, again, trying to convince themselves and others of the fact that they aren’t.
Still there are others that think they ARE good fishermen, and often talk as if they were. Often referring to others as “them”…These are most often one hit wonders, people that have landed a decent fish and lived to tell the tale.
So…who has a Stella, and what have you caught with it?
