Emirates Says: WE can damage your checked in luggage and get away with it!

// August 3rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Angles, Rants

I spoke to two different people now, telling me two different things, the last one, referred me to this email address.

I went back to Dubai on board flight EK333 last Friday, 31st July.

In my manila check in, I asked the lady in the counter to put it in as fragile. (the case has a lot of fragile stickers on it).

Arriving in my flat past 1am of the next day, I opened the rod case first, and to my horror, all 3 fishing rods were damaged.

I managed to fix one, but there’s two in question that are broken.

What do I do to make a claim for the damaged fishing rods?

Dear Kit,

Thank you for your email.  I wish to you advise you that all baggage related claims are to be registered immediately on arrival as this enables our staff to assess the claim in details.  As you did not report this immediately in arrivals baggage hall, we regret our inability to entertain any claim.

I must also inform you that in accordance with our Conditions of Carriage, which forms a part of your ticket contract, we are not liable for damage to or loss of  valuable and fragile items, included in the checked baggage, whether with or without our knowledge.

Under the circumstances, regrettably, we are unable to consider your claim. Kindly view our Conditions of Carriage, in particular, Article 8.3.3 on our website www.emirates.com

Thank you for writing to us and for allowing me to explain.

Regards

Be Aware people, you have to open your luggage after a long flight and the long wait at the carousel, and you have to do so in front of an EMIRATES REP to be able to claim damages.
