First trip of the year…sort of

I can’t believe this, what would have been the first trip, in the first day of the year…turned out to be a snore fest. I had 30 mins to call before calltime and I dozed off, when I woke up…viola, 11:00am, 01.01 2010.
So today, I will do something fishing related.

I finally finished the sail rig for the kayak and I was looking forward to testing it out today, but sadly, that wont be the case…I have an opportunity to work out the kinks before I really use it though, which is a very very good thing. The sail was made with safety in mind, I wouldn’t want to attach something that doesn’t do the job that it’s supposed to. So I got a week or so to see some kinks.
I will be dry fitting it on my kayak later.
I’ll take a picture and make a post of how I put the whole thing together.
The sail was made from a day shelter tent, similar to the one pictured below:

I just cut the back piece off the whole thing, I chose it because it already had a section where I could fit the pipes in (the place where you put the tent’s spine in, the pockets are one inch folds, which fits the pipes perfectly) some zipties, chain links for the bungie and guy lines tie downs. Hose clamps hold the top to stretch the sail’s top section and bottom of the sail is pulled in place by 3 zipties on each side to ensure the ends don’t slide up.
The rod is there for comparison, it’s a six foot 5 inch rod, so you can see that this thing isn’t THAT small. It should pull the kayak along nicely, and making it a bit easier for me to paddle.
