Following dreams and making things happen
// April 9th, 2011 // Comments Off // Dear Kaylee
I saw you on skype today. Mommy flew to LA so it was only me, grandma and Uncue with you. I heard from your grandma that you really like this one picture of the both of us. She even said you kissed it often…and crumple it at the same time.
Every time I made a face, you would smile. You seem to be smiling a lot these day, which is great because when I was last in Cebu, you hardly smiled…and when you did it really made my day.
You kuya MJ will be in Cebu tomorrow so your mom and I would be seeing a lot of pictures of you since he really likes taking pictures of you and uploading them on facebook. He is also one of those people that can make you laugh at will, again, something that with you isn’t something so easy. I can make you laugh but boy do I have to work for it…your mom can’t make you laugh though
So…what’s been happening in the last few months…well, daddy has this column in a magazine. I write each month and as you may have well guessed, its about fishing. If my facebook page still exists when you are old enough you will see pictures of the magazine articles there.
Once upon a time, daddy really wanted to be a writer for fishing magazines, I wanted to do that professionally, but daddy grew up in the wrong side of the world, The Philippines isn’t really known for sport fishing, but tell you what…daddy changed that. This is something that makes me live part of that dream.
I want you to understand that dreams are something that can be made into reality with a little bit of hard work. While growing up, people will tell you that there are things in life that you can’t do. The very first thing you will learn from daddy is that you shouldn’t listen to people that tell you that, they are a waste of time.
So how did daddy change things? Read up little girl.
Opportunities have a funny way of showing themselves, oftentimes, its vague. How you choose to navigate around them or use them determines what lies ahead.
First, you should understand that things DO NOT ALWAYS GO THE WAY YOU EXPECT OR WANT THEM TO…YET. This is important because these things will dictate the way you make your next decisions. However, remember that when you plant a seed and take care of it, it will grow into something. If you plant a lot of seeds, you can make a forest.
I mentioned earlier that I grew up in the wrong part of the world for what I wanted to do, but that didn’t stop me. I learned what I needed to learn, even more than what others could in parts of the world that sport fishing is more popular. When I was ready, an opportunity presented itself. To make a long story short, I made a huge contribution by making sport fishing a popular sport and pass time, in the Philippines. We are experiencing a huge growth day by day. You don’t have to be in the middle of it to make things work for you, you just have to be the catalyst to start it. Most of your successes would not be visible to everyone, which will work for you. By doing something good, you get recognized by your peers, that is not your target. What you’re target should be is to be more than exceptional at something that you love this will make even the people that don’t like you, recognize you.
There are things that are hard to do. They are called so, because they are only difficult to achieve…not impossible. Which means you can do it, but you have to put in the time. If you, like me, find something that you love doing, never let anything or anyone drag you down or stop you. If you find people around you that are like that, keep them around; You will have followers and equally as much critics, which are annoying, but they keep your head in check and keep you from being too full of yourself…You don’t have to look far for an example. Just look at one of your uncles, he is a classical example of someone who is so full of himself, yet in reality, has really nothing to show as far as accomplishments go.
Firecrackers make a loud booming sounds or are colorful and flashy, but they only last a few seconds at best…You will find that things, no matter great or small, would be part of an even bigger piece of a puzzle. How you make them fit determines the way people see you in generations to come. Nothing loud or flashy can beat that.
Dreams, little Kaylee, happen when you sleep. The best time to make them happen for you in your waking hours start when you wake up in the morning. And you know what the best thing is? You get another chance the next day.
I love you, my little alien poop machine.
