Navigating life

Dear Kaylee,
I wonder what you’re up to today. Your Grandma tells me that you can say “baby” now. That you know a few colors and shapes. How time flies…
It must be quite a journey for you each day. Discovering the world around you and finding out new things. Learning something new, never gets old.
Over the last few days, Daddy has also learned a few things.
The saying “no man is an island” really doesn’t apply that much – A person can have a lot of friends, yet he is still left to fend for himself alone. Friends are great, don’t get me wrong; it’s just that when it matters most, you only have yourself to rely on.
They idiom “hook line and sinker” - to be tricked into believing something without any doubts – holds true down to the last word. Remember that these days, in the early 2000s, braid has already been invented and widely used. If the idiom stays true with the time, it would mean that is it now even easier to trick people…more than ever. This also has something to do with a lot of people not reading and spending most of their preteen and teenage years playing video games instead of reading books and going outside to play real games.
Strike while the iron is hot – This is something to be very very careful of. I can’t explain this to you until you are in your mid teens, but pretty much, this is how there are a lot of kids your age these days. So when Daddy sees this happening, Daddy will do what’s called a preemptive strike. You may or may not see it, but whats going to happen, is that you wont be seeing that kid again….ever. That is a certainty.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder – Now here’s a little gem. While this is true, quite a lot of people can’t take it. Weak willed people often can’t figure out that you are just bored and are in need of something to do. Some people can’t take it. Again, the end result is too graphic, often involves a new ceiling decoration. We’ll talk about this when you grow up.
A jack of all trades is master of none – I love this. This is directly proportional and opposite to A one trick pony. This is what you call people that are good at a lot of things, but not particularly good at one thing. This is something you should know; Around the 1980s it became a norm to do a lot of things at one time, it is called multi-tasking. It is the ability to do a few things at one time. Kind of like listening to the radio while brushing your teeth and humming at the same time.
A very good example of a one trick pony are the dinosaurs. All you see of them now, are bones. In this example another idiom comes to mind – never place all your eggs in one basket.
As you could see, this world is full of contradictions, it’s almost an in-navigable maze of contradictions, you step forward but you feel resistance, you trudge on, but you are held back. you get frustrated. You get lost, feel shame, anger, defeat and ultimately, want to give up…
The first lighthouse was invented so sailors would be able to find their way home. That is why, each and every single child that’s born, is born from a parent. Parents are your lighthouse in this world…and you should never forget that your mom and I are here to help you navigate this world with you.
Sweet dreams little girl. Tomorrow, the sun always rises.
Daddy
