Beach Casting

I love surf casting. Ever since I was a teenager, I have been breaking rods and busting the surf. A decade after, I’m still doing it every chance I get.
Fish don’t have to be monsters when caught on the surf, often times, its just the challenge of being able to cast far (and straight), for me at least.
It often gives you some pride to be able to cast into waters where the fish are not as disturbed by anglers or being able to cast into or closer to deeper water; this just shows you that in fishing, every bit of anything that gives you an advantage helps.
A lot has changed the way I fish, before, technology wasn’t such a huge factor…It isn’t still, however, it helps when it’s needed; I’ve always been partial to conventional gear, from light line lure fishing down to jigging and trolling, for me, conventional reels or multipliers as some folks call them, are the reels of choice.
For surf fishing, I use Penn, Shimano and Daiwa reels, each have their place in my arsenal.
The Penn 525 is my reel of choice for “medium” surf work. loaded with 15lb line, its the reel that I most often use, it is paired with a 13 foot South African Style Surf caster, this is the combo that I’m using in the video above.
On the light side, I have the Daiwa Sealine X 20SHV. Spooled with 12lb line, it’s my choice for tossing plastics and bucktails, it is paired with a 12 foot South African Style Surf caster.
The heaviest combo in my roster of long cast surf gear is a Shimano Speedmaster paired with a 15 foot moster of a rod, spooled with 40lb line, I mostly use it for Slide-Baiting off high jetties and small cliffs.
I will post more of my beach fishing trips soon…that’s if I’m not too busy fishing.
